Workshop on water management in urban areas set for tomorrow

It will be organized by the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Sciences, under the Vietnamese National University-Hanoi (VNU), the Belgian Development Agency and some of Belgium’s universities, at the Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Center of the VNU Campus.

Attendees at the workshop will share their knowledge and experience in water management with local policymakers, universities, research institutes and other interested parties. 

Vietnam is one of the countries that suffers the most from climate change, which has raised the risk of both droughts and flooding. In Vietnam, the rapid urbanization and high economic growth rate have caused multiple environmental problems, negatively affecting human lives and economic development.

Therefore, knowledge of the effects of climate change, its risks and solutions for climate change adaptation is necessary.

Also, a representative of the Belgian Development Agency will present its projects to address the consequences of climate change in the urban areas of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Ha Tinh provinces.

In addition, there will be presentations on water management research in major Vietnamese cities such as Hanoi, HCMC and Can Tho, jointly conducted by Vietnam and Belgium.

Studies on remote sensing, flood control systems, flood mapping, the role of waterways and urban planning may also be delivered, which can offer crucial help for Vietnam’s urban planning activities and sustainable water management in adapting to climate change.

As long-standing partners for over 40 years, the partnership between Vietnam and Belgium in various sectors has grown strongly. The workshop is an occasion for Belgium to continue its support for Vietnam, helping the country respond effectively to the challenges of climate change.
